"Indie" Anna Jones and the Last Overplayed Trend

I’ve been pretty busy this week, so hopefully you’ve noticed the drop off in quality from the already frighteningly low standard for these blog entries.

This isn’t exactly a startling revelation, but I think it begs exploration. Is it not cool to wear a t-shirt and jeans anymore? Between my morning bowl of cereal and a way-too-long phone call with a my part-time employer, I was clicking around record label, band and booking agency websites, trying to find some upcoming tour dates. Unfortunately, I was sidetracked by the dumb press kits and various professional band photographs that all these portals use. Each one stank more than the previous one of rotten kitsch, raw shtick, and overcooked hokum. It really got me thinking: for all the shit that ’90s alterna-rock gets in hindsight, at least a lot of those bands didn’t dress like extras in a commercial for Apple (here’s looking at you, Ben Gibbard!) or The Gap (here’s looking at you, “buzz band” Cansei de Ser Sexy!). Sorry, I just don’t see any need for sweaters, dress pants, skinny ties, or horizontal striped shirts in any genre music, unless it’s Adult Contemporary.

- Everyone who is anyone will be at Ken’s other other band’s show in Montclair tonight. Big raging party afterwards? Maybe…

- I updated my picks at The Tripwire to accurately report what albums I like this week. Quick! Someone Google Image Search all those bands and find out what clothes they wear! Collared shirts be damned!

- I’m nixing all future Monday creative entries so I can have an extra entry devoted to “real world” issues (note: I don’t mean the TV show). I’m planning to officially share the address of a site in the coming days/weeks devoted to creative writing that I’ve been working on since June.

- My first audiocast (still as of yet untitled) should be available late next week. Jack, Ken and I shopped a ton of ideas last night, most of which we were very excited about attempting. It’ll either blow minds or blow chunks.
