If I told you today was the one-year anniversary of the “SUNDAY MIX TAPE” you’d probably say something like, “What’s a Sunday Mix Tape?”

See, that’s a joke, because there’s a lot of turnover in my audience from week to week. It’s true though, I’ve been doing this feature for 52 weeks now. A quick look at site statistics shows that it’s obviously the most popular aspect of the website. And not only have I shared almost one thousand songs with you all, but we’ve grown together (like conjoined twins). Gone are the days of sharing obvious tracks from the “indie” canon. Here are the days of exploration and mind expansion. The Mix Tape is a black hole feeding off the energy of the underground movement and regurgitating freakish, splattered compilations for your enjoyment. Like some of you (I hope), I look forward to another year of alienating the mainstream.

RULES for the uninitiated noobs: I’ve got 100MB of webspace, and every week I birth a new compilation for your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is pushing on you these days. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) to see what sticks. This week had the makings of an incredible mix, but then I got a little “sneak peak” happy and ruined whatever flow I’d built around Bark Psychosis, Reigns, Benoit Pioulard and Hotel Alexis. I got so excited about sharing new Electrelane, LCD Soundsystem and Hella tracks that I forgot about the vibe, man! Maybe next week will be the perfect tape. Or maybe I’ll just make a dance punk mix. Who knows!? These songs will be removed if desired by the band or those who represent them. Let me know and I will gladly comply. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.

Thank you for these weekly mix tapes; this will be my new Brave New Waves. If that doesn’t make sense; don’t worry, it does to me.
