• If you go to any of the following colleges, be forewarned: the RIAA has singled your institution out for excessive copyright infringement across the campus network. State University of New York at Morrisville, Georgia Institute of Technology, Pennsylvania State University, University of Central Arkansas, University of Delaware, Northern Michigan University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, George Washington University, Ohio State University, New Mexico State University, Eckerd College, University of Minnesota, California State University – Monterey Bay, University of Kansas, University of Missouri – Rolla, University of San Francisco, Case Western Reserve University, Northern Arizona University, San Francisco State University, University of Tulsa, Franklin and Marshall College, Western Kentucky University, and Santa Clara University. • Thankfully, people are finally getting the hint and striking back at the RIAA and their pathetic fight to make up for dwindling sales. A Harvard Law professor offers this missive in which he implores students to fight back against threats, and universities to resist subpoenas served by the RIAA. There’s also this Anderson lady in wherever-the-fuck she lives. It seems that the record label’s lobby group hired a media company to identify downloaders and force them to choose between a several thousand dollar fine or a lawsuit. Unfortunately for them, the media company falsely identified a single mother and began to threaten her. Now she claims in a lawsuit that the RIAA acted negligent and fraudulently, is responsible for emotional distress following malicious prosecution, and is in violation of federal RICO statutes. Although the RIAA will probably try to settle, I’m hoping she doesn’t accept their offer.
• Kids say the darndest things. Like, “E-mail is dead,” or “SMS is the new e-mail” [story]
• I say, “CNN is so over.” Especially when they claim to be the pinnacle of world news reporting, and then title an article “Levi’s sues the pants off Polo.” [story]
• From the “No shit” department. The rear seats on an airplane are the safest in the event of a crash. [story]
• Here’s an insightful series of articles on slot machines. I know one person who doesn’t know a thing about slot machines: Ian. See, when you sign up for an MGM/Mirage Player’s Card, you get a free ten dollars to use at casino slot machines. Matt and I both turned this free $10 into a profit by playing at the High Stakes Slots, while Ian somehow managed to not get his card working, thus missing out on free money (or not). Sure, slot machines offer the worst odds in the casino, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to sit here and bad-mouth them. The only other time I’ve ever put money in a slot machine was in Montreal, where I hit a 1,000 quarter ($250) jackpot on a Triple-Double machine. [story]
