Zombie Attacks? Really?

I have a hard time calling into question a story published on a prestigious website like that the Archaeological Institute of America, but I have an even harder time wrapping my head around this article about zombie attacks that occurred in early Egypt.
Apparently an archaeological dig at Hierakonpolis in 1892 led to the discovery of a tomb that contained a partially decomposed body, the brain of which had been infected with a virus that turned people into zombies. Another piece of evidence (perhaps the oldest historical document in the world), also from that location, seems to infer that in 3000 BC there could have been a large zombie horde attack. More recent digs at the site have unearthed a number of headless corpses. “The number and the standard position of the cut marks (usually on the second-fourth cervical vertebrae; always from the front) indicate an effort far greater than that needed simply to cause the death of a normal (uninfected) person. The standard position also indicates these are not injuries sustained during normal warfare.” So, there you have it. Zombies. Real? Does it matter? Aren’t ghouls way cooler than zombies, anyway?
I’m telling you, people. Ghouls! It’s all about ghouls!
Perhaps the most baffling paragraph in the article is the one which mentions how researchers are “seeking funding for a major research project to determine if remnants of the virus can be distilled from the preserved brain matter, and of course, more importantly, whether the virus is still viable.” Yeah, that sounds logical. You heard it here first, folks. There’s gonna be a zombie pandemic in the coming years.
…After a miserable, boring day yesterday, I decided that I must force today to be a better day. Ilya, Sari and I went to Patra for breakfast, which is about the best way I can think of to start any day. Then we got home, and it was already 2:00pm. How the hell did that happen? It’s still too cold and gray outside to hang out in Griffith Park, so I guess I’m going to have to find something else to do with the remainder of my afternoon. What a strange week this has been…
