• Stop the presses. It costs more money to eat healthily than it does to eat unhealthily. This news comes from that bastion of fine journalism The New York Times. I don’t give a shit about the article, or how Americans are all overweight because the cheap food we buy is not good for us, I just like how the title of the article is “A High Price For Healthy Food” and there’s a picture of a woman in a chain supermarket reaching for a box of Ritz Bitz. Classy! [story]

• In the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest dwells the strange and beautiful creature known as Bigfoot…Perhaps. Sadly, logging and human settlement mean they threaten what might be his habitat….Although, if it’s not, they don’t. Bigfoot populations require vast amounts of land to remain elusive in. They typically dwell just behind rocks, but are also sometimes playful, bounding into thick fogs and out-of-focus areas. Remember, it’s up to us. Bigfoot is a crucial part of the ecosystem…If he exists. So lets all help keep Bigfoot possibly alive for future generations to enjoy…Unless he doesn’t exist. What I mean to say is, a man from San Juan Capistrano is on a mission to find Bigfoot in California. [story]

• NBC made a list of the top ten reasons why people love top ten lists! Number three on the list is “Lists Give The Impression Of Credibility”, and that is exactly why I create so many top ten lists. I just want to be trusted and believed in, people! The fact that this list comes from NBC proves that I’m taking over the Internet one silly list at a time. Stay tuned for the next few weeks, when you’ll see my “Top Ten Dead People of 2007″ and “Top Ten Records Of 2007″ and “The Top Ten Top Tens Of 2007 Ten” lists. If you want to vote for a favorite Top Ten of 2007, leave a comment in the appropriate place (the comments section). [story]

• …In other “Top Ten”-related news, here’s a list of 10 Unexpected Uses for Beer. Number one (Marinate meat in it) is not really unexpected, as this has definitely been done before. It’s delicious. Some unexpected items on the list include “bathe in it” and “kill slugs and snails”. Fascinating little list. Thanks, nerdy beer fan! [story]

• Don’t Be Afraid of Death. And don’t be afraid of being buried in a pine box six feet below the surface where the worms can eat you. These days, new advancements in burial practices are rapidly altering our options when it comes to selecting our final resting places. For example, here’s a new underwater memorial reef off the coast of Florida where you can stay for all eternity. Bonus: the article links to a list of the top ten offbeat burial practices. [story]

• They found Michelangelo’s last sketch (for the dome of St Peter’s Basilica) in the archives at the Vatican. Pretty cool discovery, but…I don’t know, the drawing looks kinda shitty to me. [story]

• The little smiley-faced spider at the top of today’s entry is not photoshopped in anyway. That is Theridion grallator, or the happy face spider, which is found only on the islands of Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii. How could that possibly scare anybody? Even the greatest arachnophobe would agree that particular chelicerate arthropod is downright adorable.
