Tomorrow I make my triumphant return to the East Coast. I’ll be visiting family and friends, and working at the WFMU Record Fair. To say that this vacation is much needed would be quite an understatement; I feel very worn down and am in need of a stress-free environment. I suppose that might sound a little hypocritical, as the New York/New Jersey area can be anything but free of stress, still the chance to relax with good friends and loved ones will more than cancel out the ill-effects of commuter traffic, cold weather and the fast paced East Coast lifestyle. I’ll do my best to blog every day, but at the very least you can follow me on Twitter or Facebook to receive small notes and photos from the various adventures I plan on taking.
Here’s a happy piece of website-related news I can share with you. My good friend Anthony Volodkin, creator of the world-renowned website The Hype Machine, has picked Swan Fungus as one of his “Top Ten Music Blogs You Haven’t Heard (Or Read)” in a guest list written for Blogs.com. I’m quite honored, because ever since I met Anthony back in 2003 I’ve been trying to quietly ride his coattails to world fame and riches. He’s a very smart and overly-nice gentleman, and I’m glad that even after all these years he still checks out my writing. That sentence original read, “…even after all these years he’s still humbled by my immense writing talent and is awed by my broad music knowledge.” Thanks, Anthony!
There’s a new poll running for the next day or two, so remember to cast your vote for a chance to win a totally cool, one-of-a-kind prize! You must be a registered Swan Fungus user to be eligible for the free giveaway. This week’s winning entry will be sent a super-creepy 8×10 glossy promotional photograph of Brooke Shields from the time when she was in The Blue Lagoon, which is to say…a black-and-white picture of a 15-year old girl in a bikini! Who wouldn’t want to win that piece of Hollywood ephemera, am I right? Vote quickly, because the poll closes tomorrow or Thursday. I don’t remember exactly how long it’s set to run.
Other than that, I’ve got nothing to write about today. I’m trying to enjoy what little time I have to spend with Nicci before I depart for the homeland. She arrived yesterday and is trying her best to readjust to life in Los Angeles with a boyfriend. We’ll have dinner later, then socialize with some friends. It should help.
I’ll write again from my mother’s house, after a dinner of her widely-acclaimed chicken parmigiana, and before my first night out on the town. If you don’t believe me, I’ll take a photo of my dinner plate and provide you with some unbiased quotes from folks who have been lucky enough to taste it.
