2nd Annual Swan Fungus Holiday Contest™

Last December I sponsored my first ever holiday contest. I asked my readers to draw a picture of what they imagined me to look like, and the winner received a beautiful fully-autographed concert poster by The Jesus Lizard. Z won with his dopey, horse-faced interpretation of me, which he captioned, “Bagel loving, beer swilling, music blogging sports fan.” It was an overwhelming favorite, and Z was (I think) quite happy to receive the grand prize. Almost exactly one year later (I’m starting a day early to give you more time) it’s time for the second annual Swan Fungus holiday contest. Sponsored by Swan Fungus.

This year I’ve raised the stakes quite a bit. Would you believe that the signed poster I gave away last year was given to me free of charge? It was! It was an expense free contest, and I asked something very simple of my readers: draw a picture. Some of you wasted little time in submitting your entries. It was a pretty easy contest, and I offered a pretty good prize. 2009 has been a very good year for Swan Fungus. I’ve made a couple dollars (literally, a couple dollars) through advertising. I’ve been able to pay my web-hosting fees. With my leftover advertising money, I invested in an awesome prize for this year’s holiday contest. Before I get into the rules and regulations for this year’s contest, why don’t we take a peak at what you’re competing for:

That’s right. The 2nd Annual Swan Fungus Holiday Contest winner will receive a beautifully framed gold record award presented to MVP Entertainment to commemorate the sale of more than 500,000 copies of the Select Records album, cassette and CD The Jerky Boys, by The Jerky Boys. Tell me that wouldn’t look amazing on your bathroom wall, or in your man cave, or apartment…it’s, like, a way better conversation starter than a signed Jesus Lizard poster. And it’s already framed, and it’s hilarious, and you really want to win it — don’t you?

But wait — there’s more! Not only will you win the gold record award, but I will take your face and put it on your own t-shirt, in the style of the original Swan Fungus t-shirt. I’ll make you one of each size: small, medium, large and extra-large shirt, so you can have one for yourself and give the remaining ones to friends or family. Pretty sweet, right? I sure hope so…because hopefully I’ll get more than one entry for this contest.

There will be second and third place prizes, but I haven’t figured out what they are yet. It will be something, that’s for sure.

Okay, here are the rules for the contest:

In order to be officially entered into the contest, you must submit via e-mail a photograph of somebody wearing a Swan Fungus t-shirt.

• You can use one of the official Swan Fungus t-shirts (if you purchased and/or received one for donating to the website)
• You can create your own Swan Fungus t-shirt using any materials you desire.
• The “somebody” will be the most important person you can get to wear the t-shirt. It could be the President of the United States, or your grandma. In short, it will be a person who you consider to be a celebrity. Maybe you know some guy who was a stunt double in a Bruce Willis action flick. Perhaps a YouTube sensation frequents your place of business. Maybe you’re neighbor is the town mayor. I’m letting you define the word celebrity.
• Your submission is super simple. Get a photograph of your “celebrity” wearing a Swan Fungus shirt. After that, the winner will be decided on through a closed poll in which only registered Swan Fungus users can vote.
• You have exactly one month, until January 14th, 2010, to submit your photograph.
• Multiple entries are acceptable for this contest.
