I just finished watching a Blu-Ray of Pineapple Express with Tom and Nicci. The trailer made me think I was going to hate it. Enough friends said I would enjoy it to make me borrow it from work. Turns out…it’s pretty funny! I figured it was going to be your run-of-the-mill stoner affair with a joke plot and a bunch of campy or slapstick annoyances. Wrong! There were maybe two scenes that were worthless (the throwaway scene in the diner), and a lot of the obviously improvised lines fell flat, but the rest were good! I guess I’d recommend it. Just don’t watch it on Blu-Ray. Those things are overrated. It kept skipping and cutting out — it was a real bastard. Not only that, the player took about 15 minutes to start up. What an awful technology. No, really, I’ll wait until everything is done in real-time online. I don’t need to buy into a new format for home videos.
I’ve spent way too much free time this week tweaking my annual year-end list of my favorite albums. The hard part wasn’t finding 100 new records I’ve enjoyed this year — I’ve learned to keep a running tab that I wipe clean each January — it’s ranking them in a way that I can respect. Hopefully by Friday I can be done with this and you will all comment about how you don’t know any of the bands and I am so cool for turning you onto something new. That’s my goal, of course. Also I’ve taken painstaking measures in 2009 to make sure that all the albums on the list actually were released in 2009. It seems like one or two items always sneak through that were technically (or originally) released the prior year. I’m confident this time I am accurate.
And, of course, time is a-wasting, and I have yet to receive my first entry for the 2nd Annual Swan Fungus Holiday Contestâ„¢. What’s taking you people so long? Don’t you know any celebrities? Yeah, I guess I don’t either. I’ve had a few people request t-shirts, but I’ve still got about 15 left. If you want to take part in the festivities and give yourself a chance to win a totally awesome prize, re-read the rules and let me know if you need one of the official shirts. Otherwise…you’re an idiot.
I don’t have much else to write tonight. I’ll put in a greater effort tomorrow.
