I Don’t Know How Google Reader Works, And Other Tidbits

I was talking to Ian this morning about how I can’t keep track of all the websites related to Emeralds and its members’ solo projects. I was given a bunch of links and instructed to add them to my Google Reader. The only problem is, I don’t have a Google Reader. I don’t even know how it works. That sounds kind of insane, right? The blogger who can’t understand how RSS feeds and readers work? Well, that’s me. Maybe it’s why my readership hasn’t increased at all since the State Of The Blog address last month. I’m starting to feel a bit inept when it comes to Internet technologies and advancements. Have I already become an old man? Has the Internet surpassed by learning ability? All signs point to “probably.”

So maybe I don’t know about RSS feeds. At least I do know how Google Docs works. And I’m about seventy-five percent done with cataloging my record collection. Right now the breakdown of my collection looks like this:

7″ – 103
10″ – 20
12″ – 962

I never thought about collecting 7″s until last year, when I promised myself I’d only buy one if it was recorded by an artist or band whose entire catalog was something I’d want to own. Codeine, Harvey Milk, Spacemen 3 / Spiritualized, Man…Or Astro-Man?, and Townes Van Zandt fit into that category. Unfortunately, I’m at the point now where if I see something that looks cool I’ll probably buy it. I still have to wait until October to travel back to NJ and catalog the rest of my collection, but once I’m done and everything is up to date I’ll make the document accessible so you can all see what a giant nerd I am. Have I mentioned that the document includes extensive notes for each album like condition, whether or not there are any inserts or noteworthy aspects of an album…and (deep breath….) the purchase date and location for reach record. Can you say OCD? Oh well, one things for certain, I’m starting to realize it’s a valuable collection.

I’ve got a big softball game tonight. With two weeks left in our season we are 1/2 game up on the next closest team in the standings (who we’re matched up against tonight), and our chances at making the playoffs could be compromised tonight if we lose. I purchased a new bat this week, an Easton Synergy SCL1. I put about 75-100 swings on it this week to try and break it in. It’s still a little stiff but it felt good when I caught balls on the bat’s sweet spot. I’m a bit nervous going into tonight’s game because I hit so many pitches practicing this week for a game where I will only see (at most) 12-15 pitches. And I’ll only have (at most) three or four opportunities to hit the ball. I don’t know what the chances are I’ll be able to hit a ball as hard as I can, but I don’t want to look like a fool with a newly acquired bat.

Okay, I’ve decided I’m going to drink a little bourbon to calm me down before the game. Just a glass. That should help…
