Sunday Mix Tape Number 210

January 16, 2011

Today I actually had the displeasure of hearing the most-recent Arcade Fire album for the first time. It was forced on me at work. And here are the tweets I tweeted as I listened to it:

– “Forced to listen to the new Arcade Fire record at work. Sucks. Springsteen meets the Cars? I thought these losers were supposed to be good.”

– “Just because you date your bandmate doesn’t mean you should let her sing on your album. @arcadefire #suburbs #thisalbumsucks.”

– “This one sounds like a sped-up version of Bowie’s ‘Slip Away’ with more Cars-ish handicapping in the background. Ugh. @arcadefire sucks.”

– “On this song they ripped off Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’. This is turning into a wicked fun game of Spot The Reference. @arcadefire sucks.”

My Twitter feed can be so much fun sometimes. Like when I remember I have a Twitter account.

And now your Sunday Mix Tape.

RULES for uninitiated noobs: I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I’ll just throw songs at a wall (not literally) and see what sticks. No theme this week. The goal of this endeavor, as always, is to pique your interest in these artists so you’ll support the artists and buy their albums.

  1. Gary Bellend

I was sitting on the train this morning opposite a really sexy Thai bird.

I thought to myself, “Please don’t get an erection. Please don’t get an erection.”

    But she did.

  2. Tyler Kent

I coulda’ told you that Arcade Fire sucked monkey dong but I think this is one of those things best discovered by oneself. It’s a painful but important lesson. Now you know and can proceed without wasting another second wondering if there was one redeeming thing about that band.

  3. Stephen

    The Earth track is wonderful.
That Johnny Cash tune is always a creepy listen.

Love this mix – several old favorites, several bands to explore. Very cool!
Plus I absolutely had to hook my cat up with Stephen’s cat.
