The 3rd Annual Swan Fungus Holiday Contest Entries

Hi friends. Remember a few weeks ago I announced the Swan Fungus Holiday Contest? The winner will get a bottle of Buffalo Trace bourbon? The object was to design what you believe the next Billy Corgan book cover will be? Oh well, here are the entrants. To cast your vote use the poll on the left-hand side of this page to pick your favorite. The choices should be self-explanatory. I’ll announce the winner next week. In hindsight I should have given image size limitations, but because some of these images are larger than others I have made the images clickable so you can see the full size.

Entry #1 – Kurt S.

Wow. I like the Albini reference, even though I would think a Billy Corgan book
might have its forward written by Butch Vig or Rick Rubin before Albini. Still, good job!

Entry #2 – Anonymous (1)

This is the one that gave me the idea to start this contest. It arrived in my inbox as a gift
from someone who didn’t want their name attached to it because they’ve actually
met/hung out with Billy Corgan before and didn’t want to be associated with it. Ha!

Entry #3 – Steve B.

I like the use of the Pumpkins lyric in the title but it probably could have been put
to better use, maybe juxtaposed to a Willard movie poster or something. I dunno.

Entry #4 – Anonymous (2)

This one is fucking insane. It was all done by hand, and it came in an e-mail with two
separate attachments: Sheet Music for a song inspired by the book called “Alone In The Corner,”
and a .wav file of midi music of the composed sheet music. Just…wow.

Entry #5 – Dan

I really like this one. It nailed the “Zero” font and star and it addresses
Corgan’s stupid megalomaniacal, egotistical personality. And it’s funny!

Entry #6 – Jeff I.

This one also features the “ZERO” theme, but it’s harder to read
and I think that’s a hoodie the person is wearing. Also, nice Photoshopping
of the head. If that’s a “big headed” dig, it’s pretty spot-on. If not…

Entry #7 – David S.

I think that’s a spoof of War & Peace. Well done.

Entry #8 – George

Is Billy Corgan’s middle name Patrick? I never bothered to
look it up. So when the e-mail came in with no subject or description I
honestly didn’t know this was even a contest entry. Ha!

Entry #9 – Craig T.

This one is all kinds of awesome. Kudos for the Tila Tequila reference.

While they’re ALL pretty great entries, I’m going to have to go with #2. I’ve lived in Chicago all 29 years of my life. My aunt (for some forsaken reason) happens to be very good friends with Billy boy. I’ve been unlucky enough to have the dishonor of having dinner with him at my aunts house not once, but TWICE. Entry #9 comes in a VERY CLOSE 2nd place for me, but when it comes down to it, #2 is just too accurate!

Got to go with Anonymous 2′s very complete entry.
BTW, I’ve lived in the Chicago area for 37 of my 43 years and have never met Corgan and never liked his music.

lets get one thing out of the way – my entry would be better than anybodys – and for that reason i cant enter this little contest – it would be like jesse owens taking it to stephen hawking in the long jump – laughable – im better than everybody at more than everything – ive been told this many times by many people – ive heard it more than once out of the same person – people can sense my greatness for miles – for instance – a lady i had never even met once came to the hamptons from “the bronx” – wherever that is – just to touch and smell my smooth buttery skin – which is flawless like the rest of me – just remember this – when you think youve done something well and you want to pat yourself on the back for it – remember i could have done it better – its sad at times though – i had a friend electrocute himself for this reason – he couldnt live up to me – after it was all over his parents were pretty happy and told me that they could give ALL of their attention and praise to me since brian was gone – his name was archibald – but i guess its easy to forget that kind of thing when im around – ill vote for number 2 because it has a picture of jupiter – that was my nick name when i was on the chess team in high school – jupiter was sometimes referred to as (im going to lay some latin on your ass so step back) Optimus Maximus – which means the best and greatest – i could keep going but this pretty much sums it up
