My interest was piqued by a blog post I saw regarding Hunt Me For Sport, so I checked out the website. Obviously farcical, but it’s a style of antics I find humorous. It reminded me of the first Rated-R movie I ever saw, Surviving The Game. No, wait. That’s not true at all. My neighbors took my sister and I to see A Fish Called Wanda when we were five and six years old respectively. Surviving The Game was the second Rated R movie I saw, and I think that one came out when I was a few years older. Okay, I just looked it up. I was ten years old. Hell, the Livingston school system didn’t even let us read the Richard Connell story (Most Dangerous Game) until 8th or 9th grade. But my dad saw fit to take me to see that movie when I wasn’t even a Bar Mitzvah. And it was awesome. Icd-T was awesome. Rutger Hauer was awesome. Gary Busey was awesome. I don’t remember who else was in it, but it was cool. Watch the trailer. Well, to my ten-year-old self it was awesome. I wondered how the film stood up against the test of time, so I watched it a couple nights ago to see if it was as great as it was 17 years ago.
Wow, I liked that movie? I mean, yeah, the story is classic and has been adapted several times, but…Jeez. How over-the-top is every acting performance in this film? You know how in True Romance all the actors seem really coked up and awesome? In Surviving The Game every actor acts that same way but instead of being good it’s comically bad. That story Gary Busey’s character tells about having to train his dog to fight and then fight it to the death? Oh man, hilarious. Remember Hard Target? The JCVD movie? I’m pretty sure that was another variation on this theme. I should watch that again to make sure it’s as bad as I remember it being. Then again, I didn’t see that movie when it was in theaters, I was in high school and I was very high when I first saw it. Hard Target. Surviving The Game. Which one would you rather watch?
Sorry for the short post. I’m a little out of it today. Had a long night last night, woke up hungover and went for a run, then met some friends for lunch. Go Burger in Hollywood is pretty good. They do a variation of a Smashburger that’s not bad, and their Maker’s Mark vanilla milkshake is good. The fried pickles sucked and the duck fat fries were too soggy. The hunt for LA’s best burger continues…
