Apologies, Running, Storms

Wasn’t I just apologizing a couple days ago for infrequent posts? Yeah, sorry about that. I had another busy weekend of partying and moving. My current bedroom is almost empty, but my new bedroom is looking pretty tight. I’ve got my record shelves stacked vertically, someday maybe I’ll have a library ladder running the length of a wall that I could use to locate what I want to hear. Actually if I ever get that insane about my collection I should be put down. Tomorrow I’m going to go to Home Depot to buy some brackets to brace the thing, and maybe build floating shelves for my turntable and receiver. I’m not gonna lie, I got hard thinking about the possibilities.

Today starts week 5 of my marathon training schedule. Last week was rest (Monday), 3 mile run (Tuesday), 4 mile run (Wednesday), 3 mile run (Thursday), rest (Friday), 9 mile long run (Saturday), rest (Sunday). A month from now my schedule calls for me to run a half marathon. That should provide me with some idea of how I might expect to perform in a full marathon. As far as the lifestyle changes I was planning to make at the onset of training…there have been some complications. Apparently my addiction to alcohol is much stronger than my addiction to soda was. I’ve gone a full month without a drop of soda, but on nights that do not precede a run (mostly Saturday and Sunday nights) I’m still going out and getting drunk. I’ve made a vow to myself that at the halfway point of my training (the half marathon) I will not touch another sip of alcohol. It’s going to be really tough. I anticipate I will be called a pussy by everyone I know…all the time…whenever I refuse to go out with them just to be their designated driver. Hopefully they’ll understand it’s for a good cause. I’m keeping to the training diet pretty well, loading up on carbs before runs but letting myself indulge sometimes as well. I’m trying not to be SO gung ho about it, but I want to get the most out of the experience as well. More people are telling me I look healthy. So that’s good. Better than being the pale, wimpy little bitch I’ve been for the past ten years. Fifteen years. Fuck it, twenty-eight years.

My father checked in with my via phone this morning to “make sure I was okay” (which seems odd, considering he was back in New Jersey dealing with a tropical storm and out here in LA it’s about 100 degrees, sunny with blue skies). He even concluded our phone call by saying “stay dry,” which made me wonder if he’s got dementia. On the topic of the tropical storm…my family’s alright, but Millburn certainly isn’t! CNN even sent a reporter to town to report on the massive flooding downtown. That area by the river has flooded before. I remember Charlie at JP Lee’s (Rest In Peace JP Lees!) used to keep a framed picture of what Millburn Ave. looked like the last time the river flooded. I guess Basilico was damaged a bit. I ate there last when I was home for the WFMU record fair in October. Good food. Livingston was fine though. Surprisingly my father’s house didn’t flood, which it almost always does because there’s a creek leading to the Passaic River in his yard and pretty much every single time a big rain storm hits his basement floods. I guess what little music equipment I left there when I moved is still dry. The best news to come out of Tropical Storm Irene is that my sister downloaded the first two seasons of THE WIRE to watch. I’m excited for her.

Alright, I’ve said enough. I’m tired. I’ll post another make-up mix tape tomorrow and hopefully return to my normal 7-days-a-week blogging schedule now.

There’s nothing wrong with having a ladder on wheels for your record collection! Nothing!
