Nothing says Valentine’s Day quite like JOMF. Had I remembered today was a “holiday” on Sunday I might have compiled a mix tape for the occasion, but instead I chose to go out to eat at the Olive Garden to celebrate Drew’s last night in town. Worst meal I’ve ever had in my entire life. I used to think it was fun to put on a suit and eat at crappy restaurants, but now I’m beginning to see that it’s just a waste of money.
Anyway…these two titles were released — I believe both in limited runs of 500 — by Fisheye and Ecstatic Peace! They were later combined to form a 2CD set by a third label. Was it ATP? I don’t really remember. These were actually the first two JOMF releases I heard, and I heard them courtesy of said two-disc compilation. This was a few months after I saw the band open for Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 2003. I still think that these two works stand as some of the best material JOMF ever put to tape. For those of you who like your experimental music less meandering a slightly more focused, this achieves a middle ground between that and the non-music experimental stuff I sometimes post. It’s way more lush, the sound quality is high, and it’s about as straightforward as the band got. A few years later when I saw JOMF at the sadly defunct NYC venue Tonic (at an infamous show my friend walked out on because he couldn’t handle it) they had devolved into a more haphazard, noisy band. Although, to be fair, it might have had something to do with the copious amounts of weed they were sharing with the crowd.

You are correct that the cd was issued by ATP about 8 years ago.
