Aaron Snow of Connecticut-based space rockers Landing wrote this morning to alert me to some recent goings on in the Constitution State. Did you know that 2013 marks the band’s 15th anniversary? Aaron and his wife originally formed the band way back in 1998 with Dick Baldwin and Daron Gardner. Though the full-band lineup has changed in recent years, the core has remained intact since Landing’s inception. Even better, there’s a new cassette tape called “II” being released to mark the occasion. According to Aaron, “The music continues down the path of our recent self-titled album and the Wave Lair mini-album, melding vintage minimal drum machine with space rock/shoegaze fuzz guitars,  synth and bass topped off with hazy boy/girl vocals dripping with dubbed out effects.” How descriptive! Oh yeah, the 15th anniversary celebration also includes a two-week tour of the northeast starting next Saturday in Philly. You lucky East Coast motherfuckers:

8/03 Philadelphia, PA @ Kung Fu Necktie
8/04 Baltimore, MD @ Club K
8/05 Arlington, VA @ Galaxy Hut
8/06 Lynchburg, VA @ Speakertree Records
8/07 Asheville, NC @ Apothecary
8/08 Durham, NC @ Pinhook
8/09 Atlanta, GA @ Eyedrum
8/11 Knoxville, TN @ Pilot Light
8/12 Indianapolis, IN @ Do 317 Lounge
8/13 Detroit, MI @ The Berkley Front
8/14 Pittsburgh, PA @ Garfield Artworks
8/15 Kingston, NY @ BSP Lounge

Not content to rest on my laurels (read: hem and haw about how there are no West Coast dates on the anniversary tour) I wrote Aaron back to ask “Why the hell NOT play out west!?” to which he responded, “We’re hoping to make it out to the west coast next summer. Adrienne’s from LA so we’ve gotta make it happen.” Fine. I can settle for that. But what about the reported vinyl re-issue of Oceanless I’ve been dying to hear since…wait. When did Oceanless originally come out, 2001!? HOLY SHIT I’M SO OLD!!!!!!!!

Um. Erm. I asked Aaron about this vinyl release of Oceanless to which he replied, “You mean Oceanless DOUBLE vinyl! …These Are Not Records are totally committed to doing it and we’ve been digging up a bunch of unreleased/rarities to include.” Right now they’re hoping for a Spring 2014 release, but the These Are Not Records website indicates Winter 2014 might be more likely. Keep your eyes to the skies, hopefully we’ll be hearing more about it in the coming months.
