This Will Destroy You – Teragram Ballroom; Los Angeles, CA
In June of 2006 This Will Destroy You released Young Mountain, a six-song, thirty-six minute mini LP that drew comparisons to prominent post-rock bands such as Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai, and Mono. Ten years and several releases later (they keep getting better!), it’s time to mark the anniversary of that first release. The band chose to celebrate by scheduling several performances during which they would perform both Young Mountain and 2007’s self-titled LP in their entirety. A series of unfortunate events rendered my ticket to the band’s LA show in support of Another Language unused. I was not going to miss this show.
Teragram Ballroom has great sound. Two nights before I saw This Will Destroy You I saw Caspian, and both bands sounded great. I wish the lights were a little different from show to show, but to complain that these photos look just like the ones I took on Thursday would be dumb. The music is more important than anything else. The band sounded great and I couldn’t have been happier to hear those albums in a live setting.
It was mentioned during the show – if I heard correctly, there was a drunk dude screaming at the band right in front of me – that the band now resides in Los Angeles. Or at least part of the band does (?). Hopefully this means more opportunities to see them in the near future.
I’m not sure if this is kosher or not, but apparently the show was filmed, and is available if you want to watch it on YouTube. Not the best sound quality: watch it here.
