August 3 - August 4, 2005 Monterey

The following pictures were all taken during my long drive up the pacific coast highway (US-101). Rather than spoil their awesomeness with my stupid criticisms, I'm just going to present them all for you to see without the asinine commentary.
Actually, these next few require some comments. The Dutch village of Solvang is deep in the heart of wine country. My mother, sister and I had visited there when I was very young. As soon as I saw highway signs for the town, I decided to make a detour. I distinctly remember going into a bakery and ordering a chocolate chip cookie for the car ride (even though I had just finished consuming my In-N-Out), and declaring it "the best chocolate chip cookie ever."
What a quaint little town, right?
All the streets look like this!
You just don't see many places like this in America. Unless you do, in which case I am wrong.
And now more pictures from the coast highway.
That's the Hearst Castle. I was going to take a tour (even though I'd already taken one as a child), but I turned around and drove away when I realized how expensive it was.
By this point I was quickly approaching Big Sur.
This is at a camp site in Big Sur. I didn't stay there. I only stopped to take some pictures.
Trees. Fog. Big Sur.
Sun. Sky. Big Sur.
More Sun. More Sky. More Big Sur.
Placid. Blue and cold. Back on the road.
It was like this the rest of the way to Monterey.
