January 6-8, 2003 Montreal

When Matt and I set out from New Jersey on a chilly January morning, we figured a little rain wasn't going to keep us down. We are, after all, men. Right?
Men with a boyish sense of humor.
Just outside of Plattsburgh, New York, we stopped for dinner. On a related note, after this meal I swore off fast food and did not visit another chain restaurant for almost four years. My kids meal came with a Yu-Gi-Oh DVD that I fawned over until I lost it in Matt's car.
Once you reach the border, it's pretty much pitch black until you reach Montreal. The most boring forty miles probably in all of North America. This photo is driving into the city.
And again.
Montreal's famed (is it really, though?) Base Bin Rehersal Studios, where Slow Riot practiced for hours upon hours before the recording of the Galanty Rock EP.
I said we were hunkered down for "hours upon hours," but what I meant was, we ran through each of the four songs a handful of times, played some covers and then got drunk off our tits at some area bars, I hit a jackpot on the slot machine, and then we coned and watched some movies and listened to records.
This is what watching a Slow Riot rehersal could do to an audience member. Although their appearances were spotty, witnessing the barrage of sound could leave you seeing tracers. It could also kill you, so if you can hear me, stay away from the light.
Photographer Matt Galanty had a real penchant for quoting "Kids In the Hall" whenever possible. Here he is documenting the time he literally crushed my head during rehersals. Practice was cut short as I was rushed to a hospital with major trauma to my skull.
When you're out of your head and it's late at night, sometimes stepping outside and getting some fresh air will clear your thoughts and bring you back down to earth. This is the view from Ian's apartment window.
Yeah, me neither.
