July 17-18, 2005 St. Louis
| There was a fatal accident on I-94 that kept me in traffic for quite a long time. Not only did it prohibit me from hanging out at The Conformists' practice space, but my car's thermometer (it's an anal thermometer--built into the driver's seat) was registering ridiculously high numbers. | |
| There is no rodeo in Joliet. I pulled off the rode to use the bathroom and felt like I was wandering into the Twilight Zone. There isn't enough room here to tell you all about my adventures in Joliet, but they were pretty insane. | |
| If my memory serves me correctly (I'm writing this about seven months after the fact), that building is near Springfield. I think it might have something to do with Abe Lincoln, creator of Lincoln Logs. | |
| That's a beautiful shot of a road sign that happens to say Livingston. By the way, did you know you're legally allowed to drive in Illinois with a B.A.C of .08? | |
| When you're driving 90mph on the interstate, there's always a chance your camera will randomly decide to capture an image that's quite beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, it'd be worthy of a photography award if you were still in fifth grade. | |
| I don't have to explain my art to you. But feel free to Photoshop a UFO somewhere over those corn stalks. I won't say anything. | |
| Apparently this interested me. | |
| When I reached the St. Louis area, I was amazed at how quickly the Gateway Arch sprung up out of the ground. I just rounded a slight bend and there it was, high above the trees. | |
| If it wasn't such a humid day, you'd see these pictures on postcards and junk. Like with a kitty cat hanging from the arch by one little toenail with a note that says, "don't die just yet." | |
| That's another car from the inside of my car. Oh yeah, and the Arch is there too. | |
| As you can see, sometimes the camera decides to take its sweet time functioning after I press the "shoot" button. | |
| Hey, that's kind of pretty. | |
| That's Busch Stadium, and to the left of it is the new stadium that they're builing literally on top of it. You can see inside of the new stadium from the highway. | |
| This is the famous Blueberry Hill, where Chuck Berry still performs once a month. I went inside and had a hamburger and a beer. I met a guy who talked my ear of for an hour. I have his life story written down on a bar napkin. Look for it in the book. | |
| I am such a nerd. | |
| On Delmar Boulevard there's a St. Louis walk-of-fame and here's Chuck Berry's star. | |
| ...And William Burroughs' | |
| ...And T.S. Eliot's |
